What did you think?

The idea of being stranded on a deserted island has been toyed with for years- from movies like Castaway, to reality shows like Survivor, to sitcoms like Gilligan's Island-the idea is nothing new.  Howeverthe premise that seemingly civilized schoolboys could self-destruct and wreak havoc on such intense levels is not only hard to believe but leaves you wondering, could youth really behave in this manner?  I believe this approach was one that hadn't been explored before and left us with many feelings of digust and anger.  Also, one couldn't help but think if the definition of "true friend" really does exist?  The boys had no problem turning their backs on each other and true friendships were not really formed, with the exception of Ralph and Piggy, but that realization, sadly, surfaced too late.

I've read this book five times before and have enjoyed it every time.  Admittedly, I don't love it, but I think it has a very important message - that there is both good and evil in everyone, and drastic times may inevitably bring either side out.  I would definitely recommend this book to others because it is well written and exceedingly unpredictable.  Nothing was as expected, which I think added a great element of surprise that is necessary to keep the reader going.  I rate this book an 8 because, again, I did not love it but it is a timeless classic that will surely live on for many years to come.

What did you think about the book?  Did you love it, hate it, or feel indifferent?  Would you recommend this novel to others?  Lastly, on a scale of 1-10, what would you rate this novel? 50 words minimum, and you must anwer all of the questions.

  1. The book itself was pretty good. It wasn't the best book I ever read, and not the worst I've read. I would recommend the book to others if they would like to read books on surviving in islands. I would rate the book a 7.5, mostly for keeping me guessing.

  2. This book i can honestly say was interesting for me. This is my type of novel, anything that has to do with survial or war is my category. Its by far out one of the best books iv'e read in my life. I would only reccomend this to you if your a action type person or a war person. It gets pretty intense and in some parts disturbing but, over all its a intreaging book. I rate this book a 9.0 only because it is my type of book.

  3. Lord of the Flies was actually a decent book. I thought at first I was going to dislike it because when my sister read it, she felt completely bored. In my case, I was pleased. I would definitely recommed this book to anyone. It teaches you a lesson of life and the dangers of moster behavior. This book, I suppose, deserves a 9.0 rating.

  4. In my opinion the book was great. It is one of the best books I have ever read. I loved the book! It had a story line that was both interesting and emotional. I would even go as so far to say this is my favorite book so far. I would definitely recommend this book to others. It is a very intriguing book with surprises at every corner. In a scale of 1-10, I would rate this book a 9 because although it's one of the best books I have ever read, I believe it isn't the best book in the world. :P

  5. I guess the book was ok except those last two chapters that I did not read. I thought I was going to be bored with it and just give up, but it actually kept me quite interested for a while. Yes, I would recommend this novel to others not because of the I sort of know what's going to happen, but more of I think I'm going to keep on reading to find out more. I would rate this novel a 7 for me, except those two chapters, which I got really bad grades on. :/

  6. In my opinion, the book was half decent. I couldn't understand pieces of what the author was trying to convey, but the major point got across to my mind. I would recommend this book to others that are highly rated in vocabulary. I would rate this a 6 to 7 on a 1 to ten basis.

  7. In my personal opinion, the book was sort of interesting. Parts of the book were exciting, and others were lame. I felt indifferent about the book, because at some points in the story, i had no idea what the author was trying to say. Truthfully, I would not recommend this novel to my friends, mostly because i would never bring up books in the types of conversations my friends & i have. I would rate this novel a 4, being that i am only interested in one particular series of books, (Twilight Saga), and this novel just isn't in my catagory of books i like.

  8. The book did take a new approach towards the whole "being stranded on a island" idea which I totally liked. I kind of liked the book, because most of the time I get bored with a book, but I actually read it all, whether it was because of the fact that we had to read it or that I wanted to. I would only recommend it to a book worm that hasn't read it, because if i recommended it to someone else, chances are they wouldn't even read it. Last but not least, I would rate it about a 7. I honestly think the ending sucked, great book, suckish ending. Sequel recommended.

  9. Lord of the Flies wasnt the best book i ever read but i did like it. I enjoyed reading it very much because there was a lot of chaos and drama which kept it interesting rather than boring. Yes I would recommend this book to other people. I would rate it a 9.

  10. I sort of liked the book except the part that Simon dies! I think his death could've been avoided, but then again every good book has it's flaws. I honestly feel indifferent because it wasn't based on true events besides maybe the war. I wouldn't recommend this novel whatsoever because of the fact that Simon dies so early in the book! In conclusion, I would rate this book a 4. If Simon's death was avoided, a better novel would have possibly resulted.

  11. I personally liked the book to a certain point. Some parts of it was good and then there were parts that were completely pointless. It was an okay book. I also would recommend people to read this novel. It has a good message behind it. In conclusion, I would rate this book a 5, it's pretty interesting for open minded people.

  13. Personally, I never was a huge fan of this book. This is the first time I read the book end to end, and the whole descriptions are somewhat disturbing. I found how vividly Golding displays each boys death too..."bloody" for my tastes. I can see how the whole point was for Golding was to convey his belief on how each person has good or bad primary personalities, based on how they were taught. The book was decent, which kept me guessing throughout the novel. I think the book deserves a 7.5. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy other people's view on human instincts.

  14. The story was great and I really enjoyed the whole concept of the story. It had drama, suspense, and some action which is a good combination I would say. I recomened it for story lovers of drama and suspense. I did not like that 2 good guys die and no bad guys die. I get why the author did that, but come on. I would rate it an 8 in a scale 1 through 10.

  15. I thought the book was fairly intresting. It keeps the reader guessing. It really does make you think about the idea of good and evil in everyone, and to what extent either one could come out. I thought the concept of the story was great. The suspense of what could possibly happen next kept you reading from start to finish. But even though i did like the concept of the story, in some parts i was completely lost. I feel mostly indifferent about the book, and would agree it wasn't my favorite. I would recommend this book to people who like alot of adventure and suspense. All in all, i rate this story about a 7, it was a pretty good book.

  16. I personally didn't hate the book but I didn't love it either. It was more of a book for boys. On the other hand, the message that the book sent out goes to both boys and girls. I would recommend this book to others. It is very adventurous and unpredictable. It leaves you on the edge of your seat. In the end I would rate this book a 8.

  18. In my opion , it was a interesting book. It was not what i expected but it wasn't bad at all. It taught everybody a lesson about how people can go crazy if there isn't any order or civilazation. I personally didn't didslike this book but i also didn't like it. I would give this book 7.5.

  19. I think the book was very interesting, most of the novels I have read are very predictable because the good guy always wins and the bad guy loses or dies. This book though was very unpredictable and totaly unexpected things happened.I like this book a lot, because it was very interesting. I also dislike it a lot because i think it was unfair that Jack and Roger didnt die or get hurt. Yes, i would recommed this to most poeple. I am going to rate this novel a 9 because I have never been involved in a book as much as i have this one.

  20. To be honest, i didn't really like the book. It didn't really get my attention and while reading it, sometimes I would get lost and didn't really understand parts of it. I wouldn't recommed this book because in my opinion it was boring... I guess it needed a better ending to it, or the author should have told us or given us a clue of what was going to happen next. Personally i wouls give it a 4.

  21. I thought the book was really interesting, it kept me on my toes and at points made me a bit emotional. I really liked the book because it was so unpredictable. I would definatly recommend the book to other because it really made you think about things. I would rate Lord of the Flies as an eight:)

  22. I think this book was kind of just there. I mean it didn't bore me to tears and it wasn't predictable, which I have come to appreciate in literary works of art, considering how difficult it must have been to develop the story line. I would rate it as a seven. It bored me but it had a good message and was a good peice of work, so to anyone interested in these sorts of things I should guess it makes a killing. (I would have rated it higher if Simon hadn't died) ♥(:

    ReplyDelete
  23. Honesty I think the book was way better than I expected. I really expected the ending to be way different. I expected everybody to die eventually. I also expected piggy and Simon to survive all of this because they were really the only ones who had their heads right. Overall I really enjoyed reading this book.

  24. I honestly didn't want to read this book at all. It is definitely not my type of book. Although there were some chapters in the book where I would get too into it and I would keep on reading until I found out what happened next. I have to admit it is a really good book, so I would rate it a 8. I would recommend it to boys or girls who like books with killing and/or suspense.

  25. This book straight up looked boring. I truly believed the story line would be less compeling than it is. The story line and turn of events was great and made it very interesting. However, I was not pleased by the way the details seemed to get vague as the children get rescued. There is vivid details of every scene but the ending is sudden. Not much is known on any physical appearance of the ship or the rescuer. The book was still great(but complicated) and i would totally recommend it to my friends. I liked it and rate it 7.0. Its still better than the Twilight Saga(in my opinion).

  26. Lord of the flies wasn't the best book I've read and definitely not the worst. I mostly feel indifferent about the novel, because in some parts I was lost. I would recommend it to people that like to read. Since I don't like to read I don't think I enjoyed it as mush. I'd have to rate this book as s seven, because it was interesting in some parts.

  27. In my opinion I think this book is very interesting. I enjoyed the book a lot because it always kept me guessing. The author of the book was great and had outstanding vocabulary. The only part I didn’t like about the book was the ending. I would defiantly recommend this book to my friends. On a scale of 1 through 10 scale I would rate it a 8.

  28. The book was intense and suspicious, but, I would have to say I didn't enjoy it. It wasn't a bad book, I just disliked all the symbolism that had to do with evil things on the island. It definitely would not be a type of book that I'd check out in a library, if I had a choice.
I wouldn't recommend the novel to others and on a scale of 1-10, I would have to rate it a 5, mostly because it made me question if youth could actually be as harsh as they were in the story. I usually see youth as excited and jolly kids, but the novel went against me.

  29. I thought the book was okay I didn't understand it that much. I didn't love it or hate it I guess I feel indifferent about the book, but it did have some good chapters. I would recommend this book to anybody because it has a good message. On a scale through 1 to 10 I would probably have to give it a 7 because it did get kind of boring.

  30. I thought the novel was great. I loved the novel for the way the author envisioned the charecteristics children would adopt if they were to be stranded on a deserted island with no adults. I would love to share this magnificent story of children trying to cling on to civilization while their animal instincts are kiling them from the inside out to all my friends. Finally, in a scale of 1-10, I would rate this novel a 3 for its obscure beginning.

  31. I think the book was a pretty good book but it left me indifferent towards the emotions side. i really thought it was just an okay book. It was hard to read because all the big words but i would rate this novel a seven because it shows action, savageness, and comedy such as the time they are fighting eachother in their tent. I would recommend this book to others only if there dedicated to reading.

  32. I did enjoy reading this novel; it was very interesting and had a lot of details. I can’t say I loved this novel because at times it was pretty boring. Although, other times it was so interesting , I wanted to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. I would recommend this book to other people because this novel has lessons people can understand about friends and how you never really know who your true friends are. From a scale from 1-10 I would rate it a 6. This novel was interesting but like I mentioned earlier at times it was pretty boring. Over all I enjoyed reading all the adventures from this book.

  33. In my opinion, I enjoyed reading this novel, even though it was too descrptive. I didn't love it, but I did find it very interesting. The concept of being stranded on an island completely changed for me after I read this book. It shows that stituations do not always have a happy ending. The fact the main characters were little boys instead of adults made it far more appealing to read, because of the struggle they had to live through. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this book a 7, because it may be a good book, but no the best I've read.

  34. I really had a good time reading this book called lord of the flies, it just caught my atention and i read it every single day. I really loved reading this novel, it had some interesting lessons and it seemed like the adventure would get better and better in every chapter. This novel was very good for me, i really recomend it and ancourage you to read it. It is just so amazing how a book can change the way that u think or the point of view u see things. I learned alot from this book and the lessons were very interesting and they can apply in real life. This was just a great story how from the way the author created that mood of suspension, i honestly thought they would of never had gootten out of that island because they just wouldent care.I think that from a one trough ten i would defenetly a nine it was very good. I really enjoyed reading this novel it was one of the best.

  35. Lord of the Flies was an alright book, its for sure not my favorite book but i enjoyed reading it. i never thought being on a stranded island can put you in so many horrible situations! I would hate to be in any of the boys shoes, the situations they went through were just bad! Lord of the Flies has a great lesson though and i would recommend this book to anyone that likes intense advantures. :)

  36. From all the movies and books made about being casted away on an island this was probably the most intense of them all. In this book kids were put up for a challange from finding food to just staying alive. Although no one was really friends they still depended on each other for shelter, food, etc. The kids were put up to a test to see who was reall a friend and whe wasn't. This shows that although you think someone may be your best friend could turn your back in an instant, which made this book more exciting. The events in the story were unexpected, not the typical story line when everything ends up perfect, this was the oppoitse which caught more of my attention. Over all I rate this book a 7, not because it was the most amazing book in the world but because the story its self taught a lesson, a lesson of kids who were thought out ot be perfect end up to be savenges and violent. This book showed the true colors of some kids that you would not have seen in the beginning. I would truly recommend this book to anyone espically childer to show that although you think someone may be your best friend everything can change. Desperate times calls for desperate measures.

  37. I think Lord of the Flies was a good book. In the beginning it was boring and I did get confused at times but, besides that it was boring other times it did get interesting. And it did make me want to keep reading.

  38. Honestly, to me the book was overall okay. In the beginning it was sort of boring but as i went on reading it became more and more interesting. Some books you can predict what will happen next but with this book there was always something shocking happening. I would recommend this book to others because its something im sure other people would like to read, it teaches a lesson on friendship and how you should learn on who you trust. someone who you think has been there for you all the time can suddenly change their minds and walk away from you. on a scale of one through ten, i rate this book an eight!

    ReplyDelete
  39. the book was alright. it didn't really catch my attention. the book was boring, except in some parts, like the killings or the fight over power. the book really shows the life-harsh situations people are forced to face, and you have to be smart and use your own abilities to your advantage to be able to make it through. i rate this book a four, do to the fact that it didn't keep me interested. i wouldn't recommended to my friends, but i'd recommend it to my family or people that love stories like that.

  40. I think this book was one of the best ii have ever read i like it because their are many themes in it that i think the wolrd needs some work on. Such a s learning the meaning of freindship. As for recomeding it to others i would probably not. It might be a little to advaced and talk about things on a higher level, and may not be understood by the gernal population. my rating on this bookk would have to be a 9

    ReplyDelete
  41. In my opinion it was a good book, it taught the reader that just cause theyre nice or whatever doesnt mean they are truely showing how they really are. And just cause they say theyre are your friends doesnt mean you automatically trust them. The only person you should trust is yourself, because everybody has some evil in them. I kinda liked it but its just not the one for me. I dont really like books like The Lord Of the Flies, but other than that it was alright. I would rate the book about a six because i think it couldve have been a bit better. :p
I think i would only recommend this book to people who like reading about action and war and what not. :]

  42. At first i really didnt want to read this book but i slowly started liking it. Its a good book and i would read it again. I like how its unpridictable and the message it has. 43. I didn't like the book at all. Personally I don't like to read books that bore me, but the story did have some exciting moments. I felt indifferent when reading the book. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, and I give this book a 2.

  44. Personally I can say that this book wasn’t the best but I still enjoyed it. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. It was an ok book with parts that were really boring and other parts where it was really interesting. From my point of view I would recommend it to someone because it shows a valuable lesson on how evil kids can be. So my rating on this book would be a 5.

  45. Lord of the Flies happened to be an interesting book. At the beginning, I was a bit skeptical because the book happened to have a slow start and nothing too interesting happened. towards the middle, it started to have more drama thus, I became more suseptable towards the characters and the storyline. I would recommend this book to others because it has a good plot and shows how people could react when they are taken out of there comfort zone. On a scale of one to ten i would choose a 7. It isn't the best book i've read nor the worst.

  46. I have never read a book with such a twist in the end. This book was interesting and intense, but in some parts it was just plan boring. I would recommend this book to someone who would want to read something amusing. I am going to rate this book a 8. The reason I did not rate this book a 10 is because it had some super boring parts.

  47. When I first started reafing this book I didnt think it was going to be very interesting. It started out really boring but the more I read the more intrested in it I became. I loved this book even though I hated reading it evry night. I think I would recomend this book to others because it is a very good and well writen novel. On a scale from one to ten, I would rate this book an eight.

  48. The theme of the book is what I found very interesting. The stranded on an island part is not very new, but the kids destroying themselves and each other is soomething new to me. The book was amazing in all aspects. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading stories about kids and islands. I would have to rate this a 9 out of ten.

  49. Honestly, I didn't enjoy reading this book. The book started interesting me towards the last two or three chapters. I would recommend this book to others because they might find it more interesting. I would give the novel a 7 because it does have some good lessons and some parts of the story I did enjoy reading.

  50. to be honest, i honestly did not like the book. i mean, it was a good book, but it isn't my kind of book. i love to read, but i like to read absolute fiction with a twist of love, and even though this novel is fiction, and there is a great chance it will never happen (hopefully), it still lands on the lines of real life. nevertheless, i probably would recommend the book to a few people who are deeply involved in reading, and will read absolutely any book they can get their hands on. the book was exciting, suspenseful, and you could really never catch any foreshadowing on whats going to happen next. on a scale of 1-10, i would probably give this book an 8 1/2.

  52. This book was intresting towards the end. Quite frankly the beginning bored me. Although the idea isn't new, there were twists in the story that kept it entertaining. It made me wonder how a person could go from being kind and innocent to a coniveing savage. It leaves me to think that anyone can have a dark sick mind. Eventhough I do not love the book, I would reccomend the book to someone who likes adventure. The book may have been good, but it didnt hold my intrest on a high level. Therefore I'd rate the book at a 4.

  53. Well This Book Was A Really Good Book. It Teach's A Very Valuable Lesson, On How You Should Appreciate The Life You Have Now, Because You Never Know When You Can Lose It All. This Book Also Shows How People, Even Little Kids Can Turn Into Savages Without Adults Around To Set Rules. Overall This Was A Real Good Book That I Enjoyed.

  54. The book was okay. I didn't really like it because it just wasn't the kind of book that I enjoy reading. I didn't love the book, but I most certainly didn't hate it. I would most definitely recommend this book to other people, especially my grandma because she is always reading different types of books and I think she will enjoy it. I would rate this novel with a 6 because it wasn't the worst book I ever read and it had some good parts in it.

  55. In my opinion- I think this novel is alright, not to good nor not to bad. In the beginning, I enjoyed reading it for how well they were adapting to their new environment. But as the story kept going i didn't enjoy reading it. They started with great control of civilization they had left, to letting the savageness take over them. Although my opinion is not known for the best book i read, I still do recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the dark arts, such as this book. I rate this book for my reasons that can be proven-a 3.......

  57. Unlike many books we are forced to read in our previous classes, this one was in fact, very good. It was planned out perfectly, with many twists and turns to keep us on edge. The only comment I would have to make negatively was it was too overly descriptive. Even with that, it was a really good book. I didn't love it, but it was good. I would rate it a 7. To end, I have already recommended this book to some of my friends.

  59. I think this book definately had many twists and unexpected moments. It is obvious that if anyone, especially children, would be stranded on an island there would be horrible situations. I really enjoyed the book. Sometimes I had to reread a few chapters to understand whats going on but I think it was worth it. I would absolutely advise others to read the book. It was very well written and I would probably give it a 7 or 8 just because I wasnt really into the beginning, it was pretty boring.

  60. I really enjoyed reading the lord of the flies because there wasn't a moment in the novel where I had the slightest idea about what was going to happen. It was very intense and left me feeling all sorts of feelings after each chapter that I read. I give this novel a 9 on a scale of 1-10.

I think the extremes the boys went to is crazy! I would recommend it to others who enjoy suspenseful novels. I would rate Lord of the Flies an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.:)

  70. Lord of the flies was an intriguing book over all. it made me wonder if a random set of people from our school were stranded on an island, would we do the things that the boys in the book did? this book i think made my top 10 favorite book list. i was especially interested in how the author made you want to read the next chapter, figure out how all this ends ,and how he geniusly made all the characters interact with eachother in a way that would surely turn out to be a bitter sweet ending. unfortunately i was very disapoined when all the good guys had been killed, surely i thought they would all maybe make it out alive and go home. Though thats what kept me reading sentence after sentence, and turning page after page. of course i would definately recommend this book to other's, its a classic, but besides that, seeing how we all respond to these blogs, this book, obviously, made us think in a way we never thought before. Whole heartedly i rate this book about an eight.

  71. I really love this book. It is my kinda book because it packed suspense and action and survival into one book. I rate this 10 out of 10 and most definatly would recommend this book to anyone who asked me. Ive read it twice and even the second time through I felt the suspense even though I knew what was going to happen. All in all this is a great book for anyone from the ages of 12 and on.
