Family - or Torture Device?

Family.  We share everything from clothes to toothpaste, hide keys, borrow money, lock each other out of our rooms, inflict pain and then kiss it to heal it in the same instant.  Loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that binds us all together.  Family is everything - or is it?

How responsible do you feel for your family members? Do you think family members should risk danger or even death for one another? Explain your responses!  You should have a minimum of 5 sentences.  Not lines, but sentences!  Spelling, grammar and punctuation will count!  TWO points off per error.  This is a test grade!

  1. I feel very responsible for my family members and I would do anything to help them. Yes, I feel majorly responsible for my family members especially my sister. Yes I think both of my parents would risk any danger for me and my sister. I would also risk almost any danger for my sister. I know that I would would risk every thing, except death for both of my parents. I don't know about my sister, but I'm pretty sure she would do the same.

  3. My family means everything to me. Specially my mom, who is always there for me...every single time I need her. I think that I would risk my life for my family because that's the way it should be. They've given me so much and I just love them that much that I would rather risk my life and die than me loosing them and knowing I could have done something to protect them and stop them from getting hurt or dying. I know that there may be some people who will say they wont risk anything and many times it's because they don't have a really good relationship with their family. But like I said, I love my family and I will do anything for them... and I pray to God that if I'm ever put in a situation like not knowing wether to choose between my family and something else, that he will give me the wisdom of doing what's best for them.

  4. I feel 100% responsible for my family. I do think family members should risk dangers or even death for one another, I know I would. My family means the world to me. I love them so much I would do anything to protect them. My family values have taught me to be responsible and care for them. Family always comes first.

  5. Family is very important to me, but I do not feel responsible for them. It is not my responsibility if they get involved in anything that is harmful. I feel that their actions can reflect upon me in either a positive or negative form. I could see how people could risk their lives for their family, although it really does depend on the circumstances. If they were doing something that was illegal than I could see how you wouldn’t risk your life for them, they kind of had it coming. On the other hand, if someone in your immediate family had cancer and was dying, I could see how you would want to go to unreasonable measures to save their life.

  6. Unlike Ryan (above), I do feel very much responsible for my family. Family is there so that they can protect you, and if I can’t protect my family members than I would feel awful for not doing my job as a sister and daughter. I would risk my own life for all of them. My little sister, Shelly means the world to me and if she was ever put in any kind of danger, I would gladly take her place so she wouldn’t get hurt. Not only is she my sister but she’s also my best friend. I believe family members should feel this way towards each other.

  7. I do have to admit I do very much feel responsible for my family. I feel that no matter how mad my family is mad at me or how mad I am at them they will always be there to protect me. My family isn't the greatest family alive but they will be there no matter what. I would most definitely risk my life for my family in any situation. The one person that means the world to me is my little brother Will no matter how old he is I will defend him and keep him out of trouble till I take my last breath same with my sister Hannah. I would go above and beyond to stand behind my family and fight for them. I strongly agree that all families should have each others back no matter what the cost is because no one can ever take your family away from you friends come and go but your family is always there to stay. Oh yeah by the way cute picture Mrs. Ibarra :)

  8. Honestly, yes I do feel very responsible for my family. Eventhough other people might have different opinions, family should always come first. I think I would risk my life for my family especially when it came to my brothers and sister. Even though they might make my life miserable sometimes, it would be a thousand times worse with out one of them. To me, my sister is my best friend because no matter what she will always be there for me in the end, especially when friends might not. No matter how much you might think you hate a family member, your love for them will never go away, and you will always be there to protect them no matter what.

  9. Ever since I was little, I would receive things at school like candy or materials. I would never eat or use any of them until I knew if my family wanted any of it. Since then I have always been the same and put my family first. I felt the responsibility of an adult that I had to care and provide for them, and I have never stopped doing that. I do believe that family should risk their lives for one another. I know for a certainty that I would, without a second thought, but I would not enjoy for them to risk their selfs for me. I could not live with my self if that would to happen. I prefer my sacrifice.

  10. Honestly, I feel responsible for my family because I will do anything for them. My family is everything to me and i will do anything for them. I will risk my life for my family in any situation that it might come. I have two younger sisters, we dont always get along but I love them, and I dont know what I would do if I didnt have them. I love my family even when they embarrass me and make my life miserable, but thats what they are there for. Your family will always be there for you enven when u think no one is and they will protect you no matter what.

  11. I feel responsible for my family. (Though in all honesty, they would probably feel responsible for me.) I love my family; they are the most dearest to heart. But, I must take into considerartion their wished.
Being the youngest of my family, I can't surely say that I would sacrifice myslef for my family. Not because I am selfsih, but because I know what would happen. My mother, father, even sister have lived longer than I, and they would most likely wish me to survive. That does not mean I would try to protect them, though. I would very well defend my blood in their time of need. To what extent, I'm afraid, I can't be sure.

  12. I do feel responsible for my family members, especially my brothers. I am always taking care of them I cook for them, watch them when my parents aren't home, clean thier clothes. So I would say I take good care of them. If anything were to happen to them I don't know what I would do. If a bad situation were to come around, I would help them right away. Of course we don't get along but, I think everybody is like that with their brother and sisters. With my family, I love them so much they are first in my life. They are always their for me, they support me with everything I do. I would risk anything for them, even my life.

  13. I absolutely feel responsible for my family, especially my nephew. I say this because it's people that I have been for my whole life.If I had to risk my life for my nephew I would. I wouldn't even give it a second opinion. At least, I would know that I gave up my life saving another life. So, yes family should always stick together and risk anything that may come in the way.

  14. I in every way think that I feel responsible for my family. I probably would be more worried for my little sister, even though I hate her guts. When it comes to a situation between life and death, the first thing would be think fast. My sister is my life when it comes to something dangerous. I don’t think she would know what to do she is too little. My parents on the other hand, they are cool without me I’m sure our safety is more important to them. So, to answer the question, I do think that we should be in everything together.

  16. In my point of view, family is is just one of those words that I just cant find a definition for. There are so many things that we consider our family; people who are blood related to us, our team members in a sport we play, all the classmates in our grade, our group of closest friends, etc. There are absolutely so many things that bond the mind, soul and heart of people these days that make them want to consider themselves as family. For those people that are blood related to use, who are the true dictionary definition of family, I think they are probably the only reason that anyone should put their life on the line for. Your family is the real deal. They are the ones that will always stand by your side and never bring you down. They are the best and true friends that you will ever have, and the only ones that will give you true criticism in your life and will tell you the way things truly are. Overall they are a true and absolute blessing, and i don't think anyone could make it through life in one piece without them. Now, this opinion comes from my own point of view, meaning that it formed mainly because I come from a very good, loving family. This opinion might be completely different for those who come from an abusive, hateful family. But there isn't much I can say there.

  17. My family is one of my main priorities in life and are a big influence on me. I will always love my family from the good times to the bad times. I hope i will be a huge role model for the next generation in our family. My two sisters are the people I want to be an example to and hopefully i don’t make any bad decisions that reflect on them. Family wash thicker than blood and when the world is against you , you’re family will be there to protect you.

  18. My family is my #1 priority in life. They are the ones who gave me the opportunity to live on this earth and I feel that I must repay them in whatever way possible, even if it means risking my life for them. They will be there when you want them, they will take care of you when you have nowhere else to go, they will be your family for the rest of time. I love them to death and if it means for me to die for them, I will.

  19. I'm not too sure I'd go putting my life on the line for my family. Mostly, because it's much too big and its members aren't too bright, so I'd probably be throwing my life aroung as if stopping your heart were some sort of game. And even with my immediate family; my mother, father, and four siblings, I have my doubts. You can call me a bad person or ungrateful or any of those things, but I just don't see me throwing myself in front of a bus or something valiant like that to save anyone. Sure, my mum puts a roof over my head and food on the table and all those lovely cliches, but it takes more than that to be a mother. My point here being that you have to put yourself before other people, because other people put themselves before they put you. It's human nature, and if you try and be a hero or honorable or whatever it is you're trying to prove to yourself, you get screwed in the end. That's Life.

  20. My family is very important to me. Without them there would be no point in living. I feel a responsibility for my little sister. Although she is almost as big as me, I feel that she is just a little girl and it is one of my responsibilities to take care of her. I would risk my life to defend my sister though I don't think she would risk hers for me. I love my family so much. Nothing can compare to how important they are to me.

  21. My family is very important to me, so yes, I do feel resposible for them. I feel that as the older sister, I am resposible to look after my little sister and to be there when she needs someone to talk to. I do think family members should risk danger or even death for each other. If one of my family members was put into a dangerous situation I would do anything to help them, and I hope that they would do the same for me. My family is not perfect, whose is? But no matter how the day is going I will do anything to protect them.

  22. My family means the absolute world to me, so yes, I do feel very responsible them. Although I am the youngest of my siblings, I have nieces and nephews that I constantly look after and take care of. I absolutely agree with the fact that family members should risk danger or even death for each other. I know for a fact that if anyone in my family were in a dificult situation, I would help regardless of whether it's dangerous or not. I believe that the closest people you should have in your life are family members. Because of that, I would risk my own safety for one of theirs. They're the world to me, and I don't want to lose my world.

  23. When I was growing up, both my mom and my dad worked all day. Because of this, my sisters and I all depended on each other as we grew up. We may not have always gotten along well, but in the end we loved each other. We were responsible for each other and ourselves. My family is my world, and I would not be who I am today if it wasn't for them. I would shield them with my life if I had to, and wouldn't redo it if I were asked. Even if I am the oldest, their children and my younger cousins look up to me. I hate to see them disappointed or in pain, so I would give them the life they gave me in a heart beat.

  24. I definitely feel responsible for my family members. I have an overly protective side when it comes to my family, which may not be too good. When it comes down to it, family is all you have. Friends will come and go, but family is there with you for the long run. I would risk my life for my family members especially when it came to my mom and bother. They have always been there for me, and even though everybody uses this line, I’m not sure what I would do without them. My brother keeps me sane from my crazy mother and my mother teaches me to be the bigger person when it comes to a fight between me and my brother. In my eyes, family is everything. They have to love you know matter what. Its unconditional love.

    P.S.
    I like your picture :D

  25. I feel extremely responsible for my family especially when it comes to my little sister, brother, and younger cousins. Even though they can be very annoying I will at all times care for them. I believe that family should always come first no matter what. I always find ways to help out with anything they might need. I know that if any one of my family members were in danger I would definitely risk my life to save theirs and I’m sure they would do the same for me. They mean everything to me and that will never change.

  26. Frankly, I don't feel responsible for my family at all. I mean, yes I love them and what not, but I don't feel the need to stress over them about something little in particular. I feel responsible about my family when someone is hurt, or I have to take care of my little brother, but not about little things resembling paying the bills, or worrying about the gas in my car. Although I feel the way I do, I do think family members should die for one another. I know I would die for my little brother in a blink of an eye, because even though we both have our lives ahead of us, I know he has potential to be somebody big in life! As for my mom and dad, I don't think I would take a bullet for them quite as fast. It may sound a bit harsh, but I think that they've already lived most of their life, and I am still young and I have quite a lot to experience. The only way I think I would take a bullet for my parents, was if I knew that my parents needed to stay here, and take care of my brother. If I felt that I couldn't handle that responsibility, they I would definitely do it. ♥

BTW: you're daughter is really cute!! you should let me babysit her someday! :)

  27. I do feel like I'm responsible for my family. We are a family a.k.a a working force. We are all in it together meaning we should be willing to help each other when we are in need of assistance. At least for my family, we support each other so we all can succeed. With that said, I would risk my life for my family. I know it's better said than done, but I think if the situation came up I would do it. I might not show them much care, but deep down I know I love them and that if they were gone I wouldn't know what to do and I'd be lost without them. Friends come and go, but family is there forever.

  28. I always feel responsible for my family, because you've lived with them your whole life. I would definitely risk my own life for a family member you shouldn't even have to think about it. If I were to see my little sister in any trouble I wouldn't hesitate to help her and that’s how it should be for every family. You may not even think about you might even do it sublimely and not even know why. Yes we will fight and we sat we don’t like one another but when it comes down to it you do love them, and you can't imagine life without them.

  29. I feel completely responsible for my family. They are the ones that I can depend on and will be there for me in the long run. They are always there for me supporting me and I love them so much! I would do anything for them, anything at all, even if I had to die for them I would. I would want them to live life and be happy. I am extremely grateful for my mom, I know we have our ups and downs, but she’s always there for me n I am so grateful. I love my dad because he always knows how to make me smile in my rough times even if it’s when I talk to him about boys, his least favorite topic, he knows how to fix everything. My little sister can be a pain sometimes, but I still love her even though she ruins my things and embarrasses me in front of certain people just to make me mad, I still love her. Yes, my brother is sometimes an even bigger pain and we fight 24/7 but we can have our good times. And finally my big sister, she can be in her moods all day but sooner or later she smiles and she always has great advice! I sure do love my family, they mean the world to me, and I sure hope they know that! :)

  30. My family has done so much for me that I do feel very responsible for them. I would put my life at risk to keep them out of danger. I would not want them to risk their life for me though. They have given me so much that I would want to give back to them. I would put them first before myself because I don't want to see my family hurt. When it comes down to the end your family is going to be there for you rather than your friends. Even though I think my family is crazy and they get on my last nerve sometimes, I would do anything I could possibly do for them.

  32. Yes my family is everything to me and I do feel responsible for them. My family has always been with me through the thick and the thin. My mom and dad mean the world to me and I don't know what I would do without them. I also have a brother and a sister which also mean the world to me. Without my mom, dad, brother and sister my life would be without a meaning. I would risk my life for my family because my love for them is indescribable.

  33. My family is my pride and joy. I do feel very responsible for them. Even though I am the youngest out of 3 boys; I know that I have to make sure they’re okay. With my mom especially, I would do anything for her. She means so much to me it’s unreal. The stuff she’s risked and done for me absolutely gives me a good reason to die for her. My dad also, being his little girl makes me want to give him all and so much more like he’s done for me. My family comes first for everything. I wouldn’t be here without them. A great family means a good life, so risking my life for them, would totally be worth the pain.

  34. I feel very responsible for my family members. They were given to me and I didn’t chose them, but God chose them to be my family. They have given me my basic needs and I can repay them for being responsible for them. Even if my family had not met my basic needs, the fact that we share the same blood would still make me feel responsible for them. Our experiences in life makes us who we are. I believe that I would put my life at risk, if it was a fight or flight situation. The instincts for my family would cause me to defend them.

  35. I feel I am very responsible for my family members. My family is always loving and caring to me. They’re always there to pick me up when I fall down. Only a great family would do that for each other, and for that I think I would risk even death for every one of them. My family is everything to me, right behind God!

  36. I love my family yes I feel responisble for them. My family has done so much for me and have always been there for me. I would put my own life in danger to protect them from danger. becauase if I didnt and they did die I would feel very sad and disapointed in myself, letting my family die or risk them being hurt then just seeing them hurt would hurt me becaue I had a choice to help or save them and if I didn't it would make me feel terrible. I woudlnt want them to risk their life for me though because they did so much and I would want to pay them back.

  37. I honestly do feel responsible for this family, but only a little. My family depends on me for all of the chores. They always expect me to fold the clothes, wash the dishes, cut the grass, and any other chores that they don't want to do. Also the depend on me to figure out the total amount of money we owe at a restuarant and the tip. Other than that they dont depend on me for much.
Of course I think family members should risk their lives for eachother. I'd do anything to save my brothers, parents, cousins, etc. Blood is thicker than water. Without family I believe you have nothing unless you really have a true friend. That is my opinion and im sticking to it. My blood with my family is thick and would do anything to save them, and I know they would do the same for me.

I think family should risk their saftey and their lives for one another. I would risk my life for my family especially my brothers. I would give my life for them to live eventhougth sometimes it seems like i strongly dislike them i still love them. I would do that for anyone in my family becouse family is important to me. I'd probably do anything for my family.

  41. I feel responsible for my family especially for my little sister because she is very young and she still has to learn many things. I would risk my life for my family's safety especially for my little sister and nephew. If one of them were in trouble I wouldn't hesitate into risking my life. Family is family no matter what. My family has blessed me so much I would rather give up my life than to save my life and never be able to forgive myself for not helping out my family.

  42. I do feel responsible for my siblings, but not for my parents because they are adults. My sister is an adult but she doesn't act like one. I'm more mature then her my mom even said so. I love them with all of my heart. I don't know if I would risk my life for my parents because they already lived most of there lives, but I would risk my life for my older sister and my younger brother. I'd risk my life for my brother because he has his whole life ahead of him he's only 14. I'm the closest to my sister and I wouldn't want to see her in danger. I think they would risk their lives for me. In my opinion you should only risk your life for your immediate family and the family that you are closest too.

  43. I feel very responsible for my family especially my brother. I look out for my brother as much as I can, and if something were to happen to him, I would feel guilty. To me personally I think family members should stick out for one another. You have so much love for them, and I think someone would rather die than to see your loved one die. If there were ever to come a time, when there was a death situation, I think that my parents would risk their lives for my brother and I.

  44. I feel very responsible for my family members and I would do anything for them. I would risk anything for my mom, because she has always been there for me. 45. I would risk it all for my family, but I feel, that the person with the best chance at life should stay alive. I'd die for my mother, brother, and father, but I feel that maybe my parents would rather die for me. After all, parents want their children to live, and they would do anything to protect them. In any situation that includes death, the outcome can change, but if I died for my parents, they would feel bad themselves. I strongly feel, that the young should live their lives, but I would still die for my brother or family. The adults have lived their life, btu the younger of my family, I Would die for. I feel everyone gets a chance at life, especially those who have many things to learn and explore. This is also a reason I am HIGHLY against abortion.

  46. To be honest, yes , family is everything in my world. As much as you may fight with each other, in the end family is always going to be there for you. In my point of view I do think I am very responsible for my family. I would risk my life for my family as well as I know they will for me. Family I always going to be there for you no matter what. I know I would go through whatever to protect my family from all harm. No matter how hard the situation gets they can always count on me to help they. I know I won’t have to ask for any favor as well as they won’t because family helps our with a heart not with money or anything else. Family is truly everything in my life and I think I am extremely responsible for they with my life.

  47. I feel completely responsible for my family. They are everything to me. They are my love and my joy and they are my whole world. I honestly would risk my own life just for a family member. I know it's easier said than done but I am sure that I would risk my life for them. I think family is worth your very own breath you take. Even though your family can push you to very edge where you can't take it anymore, at the end of the day you end up forgiving and forgetting. You fall back into their arms and love the love that is most important.

  48. I feel responsible for my parents and sister for the simple fact that they are the only thing I have. Yes, the bickering and the constant arguments may result in the loss of happiness and the cause of a grudge, but at the end of the day it all fades away. I know all families are different, but I'm pretty sure any family member would risk their life for another family member. I think they should risk their lives, moreover they are family after all. I know without a doubt that I would risk my life for family.

  49. I love my family members with all my heart. We may fight and argue every now and then but what family doesn’t? I think I would feel responsible for the two younger ones more than I would with my brother, because he’s old enough to know what’s right and what’s wrong. As for taking my life for them, I would do it in a heartbeat. Family is everything to me. They are the ones that are usually there for you when nobody else is. Family will always be there ♥

  50. My family means the world to me. If it wasn’t for their support and encouragement, I wouldn’t be here right now. I can’t image how my life would be like without them. I feel that I am fully responsible for my parents and siblings. I help my brother and sister do homework and help my parents clean the yard. That is just a small percentage of what I do to help them. Yes I do think family should risk danger or even death for one another. I know my mother and father would risk there lives for my siblings and I. If my younger brother or sister got in any trouble I will forever be there with them. That’s what makes a family “family”.

  51. My family is vry important to me. Because when I think back my parents taught me much of the stuff that I know today. Im the oldest in my family so that means that I have to watch over all of my younger siblings. Yes I am 100% responsible for them because even though they make me mad and are mean to me, I still have to love them. So I would give my life for my family members, because I can't imagine life without any one of them.

  52. I feel very responsible for my family members. Their pain is my pain, they cry, I cry. If they’re down I feel it’s up to me to make it better. When we fight, I’m always the first one to say I’m sorry, whether it’s my fault or not. They’re probably the only ones that have seen the ugly, mad, and vulnerable side of me. What makes a family is not the blood; it’s them being there for you when you need them the most. Just like mine has been there for me. I would do anything for my family, even if that means risking my life for them. For me if I don’t have my family, I don’t have anything. Nothing would matter anymore. Not all the great things that we have or the nice clothes I would trade that all just to have my family!

  53. I do think I am responsible for my family. My mom tells me all the time to take of my brother because he is the only brother I have, and I strongly believe that. I also think I am responsible for my mom because when she has to go to the store she asks me if I would like to stay home but I insist on going with her almost as if I had the power to keep her from having some kind of accident. The sense of security you give someone or they give you means much.
Yes, I do think family members should risk danger for one another. If no one tries to help their family members I would consider them less than human because animals are the only ones to do that. The love we have for one another is the only thing that makes us human.

  54. My family means the world to me and I absolutely feel very responsible over them. However, if they make the wrong choices in life, that’s not my responsibility. Although, if there were to be a situation that involves one family member to risk their life for another, I strongly believe that they should. I know that if my parents or brothers were in danger I would risk everything to save them, especially my mother. She has been there for me when I need her and we’re inseparable, not only her but my entire family. I know for a fact that if something were to happen to me, my brothers would do anything to protect me. I love my family very much and I thank God that he blessed me with such wonderful people to spend my life with.

  56. I fell very responsible for the family members that i live with because if i wasnt home to be here for them i couldnt help them in anyway. I do most of the chores and i grab things from high places they cant reach. I would risk my life for them if they were ever i any danger. So yes i do think family members should risk danger for one another. If it wasnt for my dad taking risks to save my family life then we wouldnt be anywhere. We do have fights everynow and then but everyone of us helps in one way and in the end we all get along.

  57. I feel largely responsibly for my family. If anything were to happen to my family and I were responsible then I would feel horrible. I would risk my life to save my family. To me the risk justifies the cause. I'm sure my family members would risk their lives for me.

  58. I feel completely responsible for my family. I do think family members should risk dangers or even death for one another, I know I would in a blink of an eye. Family always comes first in my life. I love them more than anything else. I love them so much that i would do anything I could to keep them from any harm. In my family we were taught that family is the best aspect of life that there is.

  59. I think family is important to the point that if there is blood you have to spill, then go for it. Nobody, and i mean nobody, can and will come near to my family. If you do, you deal with me first. In my family, we all take care of each other, we got each other's backs. Whatever the consequences, family definitely comes first. I know I'm responsible for my family, I don't feel it. I think that, if they're family, then it's your obligation to care and nourish them. Simple as that.

  60. I think you should always be responsible for your family members. I think under any dangerous circumstances you should be willing to put your life on the line for them. Without family, life would be very difficult. You'd have nobody to back you up and be there for you all the time. Family comes first, I come second. All of my family members know this and we all are committed to protecting one another.

  61. In a way, yes, I do feel resposible for my family members. There's always that saying in the back of your head, that no matter who comes and goes, family will always be there. You feel responsible in a way that you are always the one thats going to be there for them, and you must live up to that. I think yes, you should risk your life for your family member, but to some extent. I know, that if this very moment something were to happen, I would risk my life for my parents. But then it could be different when you have a child of your own? It all depends on the individual.
