We're done! Now what?

Now that we have finished reading To Kill a Mockingbird, answer the following questions:

1.  What did you honestly think of the book?
2.  Why do you think this book is considered a classic that is ready by every high school student?
3.  Who was your favorite character and why?
4.  Do you agree with Atticus that it's important to always place yourself in other people's shoes?  Why?
5.  Would you recommed this book to others?  Why or why not?

*You must answer all questions to get full credit!  This will be a TEST grade!  Points will be deducted for misspelled words and grammar and punctuation errors!

Honestly, I really appreciate this novel for it's depth of the ever present themes of racial and gender prejudice.  We do not know how great our world is now because we no longer have to deal with these problems on a daily basis.  As a woman, I am empowered to know that we can vote, go to school, stay home, go to work, whatever we want!  It's amazing that we have the freedom to choose what we want to be.

This book is a classic because it deals with so much human emotion and topics that all can relate to.  No matter what your preference of genre, you will be transported to a world of injustice and unfairness.  Your heart will perhaps be touched and forever changed knowing that people have actually lived through this.

My favorite character was Scout because she was smart and she was a reader.  She was not your typical child who only cared about herself and about material things.  Her heart ached when others were hurt and she tried to learn from the wrongdoings of not only herself but of others.  She was far mature for her age and, again, she was a reader!  I can't help but believe that this is what aided her maturity :)

I definitely do believe that you should place yourself in others shoes.  You might learn something!  Also, it is important to realize that everyone is different and we all have different beliefs and opinions.  That's what makes the world go round.

Yes, absolutely, everyone should read this book! It might not be modern, but it's truly an eye-opener about how far we've come.  The problem may not be over, but, in Miss Maudie's words, we've perhaps taken "baby steps" and one day we'll get there.

  1. To Kill a Mockingbird was a novel I had heard been mentioned everywhere, but I never had the nerve to check it out. Finally, I did. This novel was one of the best stories I have read. It was spectacular and fullfilling.

I think this novel is a classic because it talks about real scenarios and emotions. The writer doesn't sugar code it at all, because she speaks about the actual problems in the 1930's. The novel it self is a classic also, because the title is unique and has a great symbolism to it. The story surely touches you.

My favorite character would have to be Scout, because I can relate to her in many ways. She is smart, though, direct, and brave. When I was little, I was like her. During the whole process of the novel, I had myself imaged by Scout.

Walking in other peoples shoes is important to me. I think everyone does it without even noticing. I, personally, walk in other peoples shoes when I see them progress through the day. Eventhough sometimes I don't consider a soul's feelings, I always end up feeling and seeing their view of life. It makes me aware of the different perspectives.

Of course. This novel will now be on my recommendaion list to others. It opens doors to storage of information. I believe it helps people understand discrimination, racism, good and evil. It will make someone re-think the world.

  2. To Kill A Mocking bird wasn't what I expected at all. At first I thought it was going to be boring and that it was going to be really hard for me to keep up with what was occuring in the novel. I'm not saying that I liked it because i didn't, but it was an interesting book to read.

I think this book is considered a classic because it deals with how our country used to be and how we now live in a free country. To Kill A Mockingbird is a real eye-opener to how our lives could be nowadays.

My favorite character was Boo Radley. Through out the whole story his character is very misterious and in the end he turned out to be a hero which was something I never expected.

Yes, I do think it is important to place youself in other people's shoes. It makes you understand them better and it helps you understand how not everyone's life is easy. Many times we make coments about other people who we might not even know, but if we placed each other in their shoes, we could find out why they do what they do and maybe even help them resolve their problems.

I wouldn't recommmed this book because like I said before... I didn't really like it, but if someone is reading it, I would encourage them to finish. I do believe, like Daniella said, that it opens doors to storage of information.

  3. I really liked the book To Kill A Mockingbird it was very interesting. I think is it considered a classic because it teaches so many things. My favorite character in the book is Boo Radley because he is myserious and is a hero. He liked that he protected Jem and Scout. I do agree with Atticus about putting yourself in other people's shows because it you didn't you could not relate to anybody. I would recommend this book to everybody because it teaches you about important issues.

  4. In my humble opinion, the book started out a little slow, but then grew slightly more interesting until the trial. Then it became a fun read.
It plays on the important issue of racism and acceptance, something that is very important.

Dill was my favorite character, mostly because I always find semi-major characters interseting.

I agree with Atticus in his ideas about walking in someone eles shoes. It reminds people that everyone has different views on issues and you should take everyones opinion into consideration on the matter at hand.

I would personally not go out and suggest this book to others. Not because I don't like it, but because I believe that everyone has different opinions and they may or may not enjoy TO Kill A Mockingbird.

  5. I thought that the book was a decent one. The begining was slow but it got better as it went along.

To me it's a classic because it shows how life so long ago is so similar to today. To Kill A Mockingbird really does show how naive people can be.

My favorite character would have to be Atticus. He shows people how to solve their problems. He is also very calm man.

Yes, you have to see someones point of view to understand them. Your own point of view isn't always the correct one or the wrong one.

I would only reccomend this book to people who like culture or books on civil rights.

  6. In my opinion, this novel became more exciting as the plot developed. The first few chapters were dull, but as the book went along it became an exciting read.

I believe this book is a classic, because it shows how awful racial predjudice can be.

Yes, because your opinion isn't based on fact. Your opinion is usually wrong from what you think and it doesn't help understand the persons life.

I would recommend this book to others, because it's exciting and has unexpected events throughout the novel.

My favorite charrachter is Atticus. He is extraordinarily intelligent, and remains calm in the most exciting parts of the novel.

  7. (1)To Kill a Mocking bird was a good book. When I first saw this book I thought it would be interersting just based on the title. I read the first chapter and it wasn´t what I expected. It was super boring but as I read further it got better and better. (2)I think this book should be considered a classic because it has a very good meaning to it. This book shoud be a classic because it contains material that really could have happened in real life and it can make a person change they way of life. (3)My favorite character would have to be Atticus because he is very humble. He happens to be the kind of man that won't judge a book by its cover. (4)I think what Atticus says about placing yourself in other people's shoes is very important because people don't always show their way of life and its important to know it so you can understand them when they do certain things a certain way. (5)I would recommend this book to people because it is a very powerful book with a deep message behind it.

  8. I kind of liked the book. It got pretty good when the case started and it just kept getting better.

I think it is a classic because it teaches kids how racial prejudice is horrible.

My favorite character is Jem because he is a young man and he learns many things throughout the novel.

Yes it is important because if you do then you can understand how another person feels or takes a situation.

I would most definitely recommend this book to others because it is a good book and it teaches a lesson.

  9. I thought the book was in the beginning really boring, but then going to the end it got good and I actually read it.

I think it is classic because it talks about racism and how life use to be back then forwarding it into racism.

My favorite character was Dill, it was so funny how he liked Scout. Scout whatsoever didn't acknowledge Dill at first, but then realized that she like him too. Also, how he just showed up at their house like nothing.

I do think it is important to place yourself in other people's shoes. If you didn't then you wouldn't know how that person is taking things in a different perspective. Also in that way you won't judge before really knowing them.

I would recommend this book to other people. I like the way it just starts and ends so intense.

  10. To Kill A Mockingbird is one of the most interesting books I have read. It was nothing like I thought it would be. The beginnig was slow and I assumed the book would be boring. Once I got towards the middle, I wanted to keep reading to see what would happen.

I think it is a classic because it deals with the big issue of racism and many themes.

My favorite character was Atticus because he is such a peaceful man. He finds the good in everything and has a heart of gold.

I think it is important to put yourself in other people's shoes. You don't what things are like for them until you look at it through their perspective.

I would definitely recommend this book to other people. It teaches so many lessons throughout the book that people could really learn from.

  11. I really like this book. It is better than what i expected. Ive heard many things about this book. Now that i read it i see why its so well known.

Im guess this book is a classic becouse of all the things you can learn and what its about and i shows how life has changed over the years.

My favorite character was Scout. She is really smart and adventurous like me when i was younger. Shes also more mature than most kids her age like i think i am. So i guess shes my favorite becouse i can relate to her.

I thinks it is important to put yourself in other peoples shoes and see in their perspective. You can guess what kind of person someone is by how there dressed, look, and act but you might be wrong. They might have problems or having a bad day.I think everyone should do that.

I would recommend this to other people. Its a really intresting book and you learn many things.

  12. What I honestly thought of the book was that it was slow at the beginning but as the book had progressed it turned out to be a really good piece of literature. I liked how it deals with many problems that people face still today and shows how far we have come when dealing with justice.

This book is definately a classic. Because of its engrossing storyline and lovable charaters, it is liked by many people. It may be a work of fiction but, it has many situations that we can learn from and try to provide kids of a different generation the history of living during the 30's and how race played an important role in life.

My favorite character would have to be scout. She is the main character and we got to see from her point of view. We saw her personality the most and showed us she is a caring, smart, tough, hardheaded individual. I like how we got to see how crazy her world around her was and her interpretation of it.

It is always important to put yourself in someone else's shoes. If you do you may find that the results aren't what you would have thought. To put yourself in someone else's shoes is really a statement to help people think twice before they began to judge.

I would definately recommend this book to others, infact, I already have. The book shows so much personality and I could really connect with it because the writer made the characters and situations so believable.

  13. I thought the book was very good, from the moment I started reading it. It constantly kept me interested with a new twist with every turn of the page.

The book itself is not only an incredible and famous novel, it also teaches the kids of this time one of the most important lessons: to truly know someone, you must step in their shoes and discover everything through their eyes and their actions. This book not only teaches this truth, but shows it in two very interesting topics throughout the book.

My favorite character would probably have to be Dill. I absolutely love a character who is adventurous, sweet, nice, romantic, and a big turning point in the story. I fell in love with him the moment i read about him, and i hoped he would of come out a little more in the book.

Yes, I absolutely think that you should always pace yourself in someones else' shoes. We are human, and that means that there is always some good in us, but because of what happens around us and in our lives, we really don't understand the true reason why people act the way they do. We need to see their life from their point of view to try to understand and have some patience with that person because we would know what they are going through.

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for something to read. Not only is the book really good, but it also will do the reader well to read this book and learn and understand the lesson that the book brings to us.

  14. Honestly I thought it was going to another typical school book that we would all have to read someday. I've heard of the book before, and it never really crossed my mind to read it on my own, but now that I have I wish I had checked it out sooner. The beginning was not what I expected at first but as it progressed it became more interesting.

This book, not only shows moral values on some issues like loss of innocence, but also shows just how different America was.

Through it all, I would say Boo Radley was my favorite. In the beginning he was shown kind of as 'The Town Shut-In' when all he was, was simply misunderstood. And even though he refuses to leave his house, he risked his life to save Scout and Jem from Bob Ewell.

Yes, that philosophy has always been one that should be used more often in real life. No one really knows how someone's life really is, or who they really are. It certainly explains much more then what we know before we do.

Yes, I already have. Although the beginning might not catch your attention, it is a classic for a reason, and should be read for many years to come.

  15. Honestly, I think To Kill a Mockingbird is an okay book. It was kind of was boring in the beginning but throughout the book the tension rises and it gets really interesting.

I believe this book should be read in every high school due to the fact people are divided into groups and talk bad about other people, but they really should put themselves into other peoples shoes, before they decide whether they like them or not.

My favorite character by far would have to be Atticus. Throughout the book he tells Scout and
Jem to put themselves into the other people shoes. This is a major point that I agree With that is mentioned in the novel. He also is always trying to do the right thing.

Yes, I agree with Atticus that you should put yourself into other people shoes. This is a huge point of the story because you have to see where they are coming from and their views on certain situation.

I would recommend this book to others, because honestly this is the first book I have read in this class, and was actually interesting. This truly was a good book. I think anyone who reads it will walk away with something that they didn't know.

  16. Like any other book, it starts off slow but sure enough gets better. I think "To Kill a Mockingbird" was a good book because it makes you think of how times were back then and shows a couple of good morals. It's a 8 on my scale.

It didn't win the Pulitzer Prize for nothing. I think it's considered a classic because it portrays many different things. From morals, for example, not to be too quick to judge a person, to history, on how blacks were treated in such a atrocious way.

I've got to say that Atticus Finch is my favorite character. Just because he reminds me of my grandmother in his stolidly ways and great patience. He would never hurt a fly too. He acts as a exceptional role model as well. The book would've honestly stunk if Atticus wasn't in it or would've had a different personality or amiable traits.

Totally. I agree with Atticus 100%. Not just because of the fact of him being my favorite character, but it's all so true. Sometimes you have to put yourself in another person's shoes just to fully understand what is going on and really determine the severity of a situation. It also helps you as you are growing up.

Just as I've said in the past, I would only recommend this book to someone who I know would read it. A teacher or parent possibly. I just don't like wasting my time on telling someone about a book and them not give a hoot about it or just act like they care. So I guess in the end, I would recommend the book :)

  17. I think it was a good book it started out a little slow but got a lot more interesting in part two. I really liked the way it showed how bad racism used to be.

I think this book is a classic and is read by all high school students because it shows how bad racist and prejudice people used to be.

Boo Radley was my favorite character because he was so mysterious and I really wanted him to come out and do something.

Yes, I think it is important to put yourself in other people's because it helps you understand the things a person might do.

Yes, I would recommend this book to others because, like I said before, it show how prejudice and racist some people used to be, it also shows the way of life back then.

  18. In my opinion the book was amazing. It got my attention right away and I could hardly pull myself away from the book. It is one of the best books that I have ever read.

I think this book is considered a classic because of it's realistic themes that it depicts from the 1930's. Since we live in 2011, we don't actually think about all the hard times that our ancestors had to go through. Thanks to this book, it gives us a general view of what would happen back then.

My favorite character was of course, Scout. Her innocence is adorable but her courage and intelligence astounds me. She is so young but is unlike any child that I have ever met. Although this book is fiction, I believe that the author created Scout perfectly.

I do agree with Atticus that we should put ourselves in other peoples' shoes. It's easier said then done but putting yourself in other peoples' shoes helps you see what they're going through instead of only thinking of yourself.

I would recommend this book to others because it has a awesome plot and it's themes help you understand the world that your grandparents probably lived in. :)

  19. To tell you he truth I thought the book was boring during the first part, but once I got to the second part it started to get very intresting.

I think it is considered a classic because it shows how people back in the days used to treat others because of the color they were.

My favorite character would be Scout. She's my favorite character because I like how how she can stand up for herself whenever she needs to.

I do agree with Atticus because you may never know how a person really is once you really get to know them. That's why I think its really important to try to get to know someone before you start saying lies.

I would definitely recomend this book to others, because some people may learn a thing or two about how to treat others the next time the want to say somethin bad.

  20. I feel as if this has been one oof the greater books i have read. In this story this is an over all great moral. I truly believe there was many lessons learned in this book that I truly believe are great lessons to learn.

This book is called a classic not only because it is a great story, but because it shows how life was back in the older days. It shows to kids that although some people are cruel and mean there is always room for change. There is more to life then what meets the eye.

I would have to say that Atticus is my favorite character. He potrayed an overall great character. He shows that although the whole town believes in one thing, there will always be the one to look the other way. I love the fact that that Attuicus believes there is good on everyone no matter how bad a person can be. Although he didnt spend much time with his children as he would have liked, everytime he did spend time with them he always had a lesson for them to learn, which I thought made the way Jem and Scout think was truly because of the wise words of there own father.

I agree with Atticus, there is always a reason that someone is the way they are. Everyone has a reason for being how they are and you may judge them or make fun of them, but im pretty sure if you were in there shoes for just a couple seconds you would feel exactly the same way they do everyday.

I would recommened this book to each and every person to read. This book overall shows just how cruel this world can be. How innocence is lost so quickly because of socity, because not everyone is who they appear to be. It shows the life of a little girl and her walk through a time where there was alot of growing up to do in such little time. There is always going to be a little good in someone you just have to believe it and, thats exactly what this book shows.

  21. I think this book was an excellent example of classic times before us kids went to school. Most likely the book is considered a classic is because of what i just said. And because its very interesting.
My favorite character is Jem.He knows the true meanings of being a gentlemen.
Yes, I think Atticus is right. You should learn from another persons' point of view.
I would definitely recommend this to people who want to see the real values of life. It's one of the greatest books I've ever read.
Thank you Mrs. Ibarra for making us read it. :3

  22. I think that this book was an excellent book. It gives an idea of how bad racism was during this time.

This book is a classic, because it shows how things used to be before our time. This book is placed in the 1900's, and shows how bad things were before we came into the world.

My favorite character would be Atticus. He is a man of honor and respect. Everyone in Maycomb shows all his or her respect for him for the good deeds he does. He shows his honor, by not doing anything when Bob Ewell spits in his face.

Yes, I agree, before anyone says something to someone, they need to think about what they’re going through. They need to consider the stuff they might be dealing with.

I would recommend this book to someone. It shows the class and style people had back then, but also the hard times that African-American people had to deal with.

  23. To Kill a Mocking bird is one of the best books that I've read so far. To be honest though in the begining it seemed really boring but as we got more into the story the more I found myself reading ahead and enjoying it.

I think its considered a classic because its set in a time so diffrent from ours. We don't know what real rasism is like and this book shows us.

My favorite character would have to be Boo Radley. He's introduced in the story as a crazy mad man, but in the end he turns out to be the hero!

Putting youself in someone elses shoes is so important because you also have to look at there point of view. When you only look at you side of the story your bieng selfish because you don't know what they are going through until you look at it from there side of it.

I would recommend this book because there so much to the story line that you have to pay attention. It keeps you wondring through out the story and you can't wait to read the next chapter.

  24. it's an okay book, but it's not the best. i like it, because as harsh as it is, it gives you the complete truth & nothing else but. it makes you think about how people used to be treated & let's you have an inside look at it.

it's considered a classic because it is a blank truth about the hard times back in the day, & it makes a person second guess their opinions & see others' ways of life.

my favorite character was scout because she was a very straight up person, always learning & viewing people's lives from their points of view. she is a very straight-forward & unique person, it didn't matter to her if you were black or white, or any other race.

it's very important to put yourself in other people's shoes because you never know how difficult their lives may be, or just simply the very different ways they see life. not everybody has the same opinions as yourself, so it's better not to judge somebody before you've seen their side of the story.

i would definitely recommend this book to other people because it shows you, that life doesn't always revolve around little things like shoes or make-up. there are more important things like people's feelings & life isn't about balck or white, it's about all the memories there are in between.

  25. I think this book was boring at first, which is why I wouldn't read all the chapters. I wish I would have tooken the time to do so, because after it got really intresting.

This book is considered a classic, because it teaches you morals and values.

My favorite character has to be Scout, becsuse she is smart and she's not your typical girl. She says what's on her mind and is very mature for her age.

I agree with Atticus that it's important to put yourself in other people's shoes. We're so quick to judge people and maybe if we knew what they went through we'd have a little more sympathy for them.

I would recomend this book, because it was a good book and it taught me a few things and maybe it can be an eye opener for someone.

  26. I think the book was somewhat slow at the beginning but it got better as you read more. I honestly enjoyed the book.
I think the book is a classic because it shows you many differnet lessons and morals in life.
My favorite character is Scout. She's smart and mature for her age. She stands up for herself in any situation and tells you how it is.
I absouletly agree with Atticus. You should never judge anyone before you get to know them and consider what life would be like in their shoes. You need to see every aspect of their life before judging.
I would recomend this book to others because it opens your eyes in how life use to be with the race issues going on. It teaches you not to judge by how someone looks on the outside, but to really get to know them before assuming things from them.

  27. Alright, so I think this novel is probably the finest peice of literature that I have yet to come into contact with. And probably one that will forever haunt me.

I would say it is a classic because it is well written and depicts a dark age of American history through great usage of symbolism.

My favourite character is totally Atticus, simply because he's a great person. It took a lot of nerve to do the things he did in his era, and even though he could have avoided everything he went through, he didn't because he knew it wasn't the right thing to do. I respect that because the right thing to do isn't always easy or convenient.

I agree with Atticus, people always seem to be quick to draw conclusions without taking into consideration the situation from a different point of veiw. If everyone lived by this statement, humanity would be much more understanding of its components.

I would shove this book in people's faces and force them to read it. I seriously like it enough to resort to violence. It makes you appreciate the lifestyle we endulge in now, and understand the difficulties endured by previous generations to better the lives of their posterity, and it approaches very dark subject matter in a casual, even humourous way.

    Okay, so Bye♥

  28. When I first started reading the novel, I was uninterested in reading it. As it started evolving I became more intrigued by the story.

This book is a classic because it deals with issues which challenge readers to consider the different aspects that are portrayed. Which makes the story memorable.

My favorite character in To Kill a Mocking Bird was Atticus. He treats everyone with respect and dignity.

I do agree with Atticus. You can see the situation in their perspective rather than yours.

I would because it teaches you lessons thoughout the story.

  29. Honestly, I enjoyed "To Kill a Mockingbird" for its vast depictions of the cruelty upon blacks in the depression era. It was an eye-opener for me. I would really like to do more research on this topic.

Reason why many high school students read it is for the very fact that it depicts what racism truly was, cruel suffering.

My faviorite character would have to be Boo Radley for his mysterious persona. He kept me waiting until the end and I truly found out that he was a caring person.

For the reason of what they feel. Put yourself in Tom Robinson's shoes and look around, racial slurs being thrown into your face. It must be truly sickening feeling.

Of course, this book is one of the best I've read by far. It shows how stereotyping can just lead to someone elses punishment. Tom was a caring person, doing what he can to help anybody, but his color affected his image and nonetheless, he was punished. This book must be read and I'm glad that we read it.

  30. I can honestly say that this was one of the best books I've read. Like most, if not all books and novels, it starts off a little dull, but slowly gets better and better, to the point where I wanted to read ahead instead of reading the assigned chapters.

"To Kill A Mockingbird", to me, is considered a classic because we can all relate to or understand the different themes and situations that occur throughout the entire novel.

My favorite character is Atticus. Throughout the whole novel, he stayed true to the morals he was trying to teach to his children. He always abided to the rules and principles he advocated. He's portrayed as such a good man, one who isn't even capable of hurting a fly. He believed that there was good in everyone, that one should walk in someone's shoes before we can judge them. That's a good man right there.

Yes, I do agree with having to place ourselves in another person's shoes. It's the only we can truly see things from someone's perspective, and see what were the probable causes for one's actions. With us doing so, there's a chance that stereotypes wouldn't be a part of our lives.

I would definetly recommend this novel to others! I'm not the most avid reader, actually, I'm not one at all, but I became very fond of this book. That would be living proof of why others should read it. If someone who doesn't enjoy reading loved this novel to the point that they read ahead, it has to be amazing.

  31. I honestly thought this book was a really good book and i can add it to my favorites. Even though i don't read much i give this book a good 8 on a scale of 1-10.

I think this book is a classic because it shows how you can think everyone is good and no one had any bad in them and through out the years of growing up you see what the world is really like.

I guess i could say Scout was my favorite character. Why? well just the way your personality was she really just wanted to do whatever she wanted to do.

I do have to agree with Atticus on this one. You usually don't think about how your action can hurt someone till you are in their position and most of us don't usually try to put ourselves in other peoples shoes.

Yes i would recommend this book to other. Why? because it shows how life was back in the day and you can learn so much from just this book.

  32. Honestly I though the book was really awesome and I think I would read it again if I was bored

The book is a classic because it has an orginal plot and it lets people see through others eyes

Atticus is my favortie character. why? well he is just an extremely humble and easy going guy who knows a lot from experience, After reading the book i think it would be a good idea to try to follow atticus personality.\

Of course atticus is right. I know that if you walk in peoples shoes and understand there struggle, Then you will be treated the same and also be respected.

Yes, I would recomenned this book to aonother because it just might change peoples thoughts about racism and prejudice and stuff, you never know!

  33. I honestly think the book was only decent. I didn't particularly like it too much.
I think this novel is considered a classic because it has many life lessons that everyone needs to learn.
My favorite character was Atticus because he is very wise. It's good that he sees the goodness in everyone and that he doesn't judge people right away.
I absolutely agree with Atticus. I don't think anybody should be quickly judged on their appearance only.
I would recommend this book to others because it is very interesting, towards the middle.

  34. In my opinion, honestly, I believe that this novel was correct when it came to the racism of the south in the 1930’s. Also the way that scout and Jem thought that there town was totally harmless, and was interrupted by the trial of Tom Robinson, who was accused of raping a white women, learned how their sweet little town showed its ugly side.

I believe that “To Kill A Mockingbird” is considered a classic because it truly shows the way how racist people were in the 1930’s. Also because how rumors get started when one person does one bad thing, for example when Boo Radley stabbed his father it and stuck with him for the rest of his life. It’s probably read by every high school student because it tells you how bad racism was back then.

My favorite character would probably be Atticus because he is so wise and knows what is right and wrong. Also because he believes a person is a person no matter what color.

Yes, I do agree with Atticus, because you shouldn’t judge people until you walk in their shoes, or see their life as they see it.

Yes, I would defiantly recommend this book to other people. I would recommend it because it shows the prejudice of the south on both race and gender. It is also a very interesting novel because of all the thing the kids do.

  35. 1.“To Kill a Mockingbird” is a great book that explains the time before us, the time where racism was a huge issue. The book started off as a drag but once I got more into it I couldn’t put it down.

2.Every high school class is recommended to read this book because it gives you a better understanding of the African American life back then. Everyone can relate to the book, and possibly it will touch hearts in different ways.

3.My favorite character out of the entire novel was Scout. She was very intelligent and she didn’t care what others thought about her. She wasn’t your typical little girl. She stood up for herself; and she wasn’t a materialistic, like the most of us!

4.Yes I strongly agree with placing yourself in someone else’s shoes. Everyone has their own way of acting. Everyone’s just different. By putting yourself in someone else’s shoes helps to understand the train of thought going through that persons mind.

5.I would recommend this book to other pupils. It shows that there is good in everyone one. It gives a good explanation about how much growing up was happening in such a short period of time. It gives great examples of the cruel life blacks had.

  36. Honestly, I think this book was really good! Without a doubt, it is now one of my favorite books. Like most other books,in the begining it does start off boring but as you read more it gets way more interesting. Through out the entire story there is always something new and exciting that comes up that makes you not want to put your book down.

In my opinion, i think this book is cosidered a classic because of how it comes to show how times in the U.S. have changed. Throughout the novel there are many themes that come up. It really helps to show kids how racism really affected the life of some people in those times.

My favorite character was Scout. I liked that before she even started school she already knew how to read and write. Scout was a very brave and courageous child, and I really like that she was not afraid to stand up for herself or others.

Personally i do agree with Atticus that it is important to put your self in other people's shoes. I don't think you should judge others because of their physical appearance or because of things you might hear from others about them. You can never fully understand someone until you know what they have to live through daily.

I most definately would recommend this book to others. It is filled with suspence and can really affect the way people thik. In the end it comes to show how not everyone is who you think they are. Although it may seem that there is goodness in everyone, that might not always turn out to be true.

  37. 1)Honestly, I thought this book was great and entertaining to read. I really enjoyed reading it because I could relate to Scout.
2)I think it’s considered a classic and read by every high school because it teaches you a great moral lesson of life. Don’t discriminate based on race.
3)My favorite character had to be Jem because at 15 you go through a lot of changes and you start to grow up just like Jem does throughout the novel.
4)Yes I do agree with Atticus that it’s important to place yourself in other people’s shoes because you never truly know what someone is going through unless it’s happened to you first hand.
5)I would definitely recommend this book to others because it gives you a good look to how some people really are like. It teaches you basically to not judge people just on their outer appearances.

  38. I think this novel is one of the most outstanding novels I have read.

I am assuming this book is a classic because of the good life lessons it teaches you.

My favorite character is Jem because he likes football the same sport that I like.

Yeah i do agree with Atticus on his idea. You should see other people's point of view, so you can understand where they are coming from.

Yes I would recommend this book to others because it is an interesting book and filled with moral lessons.

  39. I think TKAM was a very good book. However, it started really boring and slow, but then the tension started rising and it got exciting.

It is considered a classic because it is a very good book for teens. They can connect with it.

My favorite character was Jem because I can relate to him. He is young and learns. He also likes football and collects cards exactly like me.

I agree with placing yourself in other people’s shoes because then you can understand their feelings.

I would recommend this book to others, especially to my cousin because she likes these types of books.

  40. 1. I did like the book but I did not like the fact that the author forgot about Boo Radley up until the end of the novel. I think the novel would have been better if it had more information about Boo’s past.

    2. I believe that high school teachers make their students read the book is because it shows how discrimination truly affected the black community while history textbooks tend to leave out many important details.

    3. My favorite character in this novel was Dill because he is portrayed as very curious and I can relate to that.

    4. No. I believe in the one of the oldest phrases known to man, “An Eye for An Eye, A Tooth for A Tooth” and thinking like Atticus doesn't let you understand that.

    5. I would not recommend this book to others. The reason for this is because the book is too wordy and has no pictures besides the one on the cover, also because they will probably have to read it at some point in their lives.

  41. I honestly thought this nail biting novel was amazing! It left me on the edge of my seat.

This book is considered a classic because it teaches moral lessons that we need to learn. We need to understand that they are very important in our everyday lives.

My favorite character would probably be Atticus Finch because he is a great father to Jem and Scout. He teaches them not to judge anyone until they have walked in thier skin and shoes.

I do agree with Atticus. It is very important to place yourself in other people's shoes because you don't know why the person is the way they are. There must be a reason for a person to act the way they do. You don't know what goes through their minds.

I do recommend this book to others because, like I said, it teaches very important moral lessons.

  42. I honestly did not like the book simpy because I bieng as easily distractes as I am just could not get myself to just sit down and read the book. It didnt have anything that really kept me wanting to read.

I think that this book is a classic because it portrays the way scout being an innocent seven year old girl learns that people aren't always treated fairly and that these people she thought she knew aren't as innocent as she believes them to be.

My favorite character in this novel is Boo Radley because he gave the book a sense of mystery that really helped me get through the book because i was trying to find out more into his life and why he is portrayed the way he is.

I do believe that you should try to think things from another persons perspective because it helps you to get a better respect for this persn and why people are the way they are.

I would probably refer this book to someone else but someone with better focus and a better appreciation for this kind of literature.

  43. I thought that To Kill a Mockingbird was a very good book. I really enjoyed reading it because I thought it was interesting through out the whole book.

I think a lot of high school students have to read this book because it shows how it use to be and it teaches u about the behavior of how people were back then.

My favorite charachter was Scout because she's a really smart, funny, and she's tough girl.

I do agree with Atticus with the words he said because it makes sense. Its imortant because you don't really know the person until your in their shoes.

I would definetly reccomend this book to others because I like it and its a good book that'll keep you interested.

  44. In my opinion to kill a mocking bird was one of the best books ive ever read in my life...the world it had was a racial and prejudice world
To blacks. The book was a classic because everyone who reads it likes it and every one who reads this connects to the book in one way or another. I read it and everyone I know who read it connected to the book in some way or another. My favorite character was probably Atticus. He was so naive to think that everyone in the world was good and nobody was evil. He was a precise man raising 2 kids by himself and doing a hell good job of it also. He would
fix peoples bad feelings and when people feel down or blue. I do believe that Atticus, statement in saying to put yourself in other people shoes before you judge them on their actions. The best example is Walter Cunningham. He is very poor and has to repeat 1st grade multiple times to help work on the farm. Scout judges him on how he eats and how he acts because he is very poor but in reality he is really a good person. I would moat defiantly recommend this book to other people because it is very interesting and teaches a very good lesson on life. It shows you how people are evil just by looking at people for their appearance. Everybody should read this book to enjoy it's beauty and see how blacks were treated back then. It keeps you entertained the whole book.

  45. I honestly thought the book was a really great novel. I enjoyed reading this book because theres so much to learn from it, especially from what atticus tells us in the book.

Its probably read by all these highschools because it teaches us a lesson about rascism back then and how bad it was. The novel also teaches us moral lessons in life and some guidelines about seeing things in other peoples point of view.

My favorite character is Miss Maudie because she seems so kind to everyone and stays out of most troubles. She inspires me to be optimistic about what happens in life the way she was when her house burnt down. I like that she is a great cook as well because she always seems to be baking throughout the story.

Yes I do agree with Atticus that it is impotant to step into other peoples shoes because you can never really judge a person until you've seen things from his and her point of view. Not everyone has the same past and our past reflects most of our activities in the future. Some people are ashamed of their past but will still be judged by it. Thats why it is important to see things from other peoples perspective

Yes, yes i would recommend this book the others because i despise reading but this book was exciting and i actually read and enjoyed it. As a matter of fact, I already have recommended it to others.

  46. This book is not the best but is defiantly in my top twenty favorite books of all time. It’s the kind of book that i could read over again which is rare because most books can’t keep my interest.
This book is probably a classic based on the fact that it presents themes that are still present in everyday life. Its themes of racism discrimination inequality are still found in this country today, and it is important to remember the past or you are doomed to repeat it.
My favorite character would have to be Atticus because his words of wisdom still have meaning today.
Yes, i do believe that placing yourself in someone else’s shoes opens your mind to the truth about why that person acts the way they do.
Yes, i would recommend this book to others for the simple fact that we can still learn from it, and i have a felling we will never stop learning from it

  47. Honestly, think To Kill a Mockingbird is such a great novel, and one of the best ones I have ever read. It was kind of boring at the beginning, but further into it, I'd catch myself saying, "Oh my gosh!"
The book is most likely considered a classic because it tells about the way black people were treated then, and because it helps you understand things from a different point of view.
My favorite character, throughout the whole novel, was Scout. I think she's funny because she's very blunt and always speaks her mind. I also liked how she stood up for her family.
I completely agree with Atticus. You should always put yourself in other people's shoes to see how they feel about everything. And of course you should "never judge a book by it's cover," though most people do, including myself.
I would definitely recommend this book to my peers. It's fantastic and very entertaining.:)

  48. I thought the book was very intriguing. It had me sitting at the edge of my seat the whole time. I think the book is considered a classic, and is in taught in many high schools because everyone can relate to it. Also, the book has many themes and morals Inwhich teachers can use to teach their students. My favorite character in the book is Jem. He is intelligent, and plays a vital role in the book as a big brother. Yes, i do agree with Atticus, and that you should always place yourself in someone else's shoes. The reason being you need to know how another person views a situation. This way you can get a better understanding for the way they act. I think if everyone would do this, our world would be a more peaceful place to live in. Personally i would recommend this book to other people. I would recommend it because it shows how our world use to be and how far we have come. Many people have abused these privileges, so maybe reading this book can help them become better people.

This book is a classic, because it talks about problems we have right now and it also talks about how they lived back in those times.

My favorite character in this great story was Scout, because she wasnt just your average ordinary little girl. She was a tough girl and cared about other peoples problems.

You should definatley put yourself in other peoples shoes, because you dont know whats going on in other peoples lives until you rerally see what they are seeing.

YES! Everyone should read this outstanding novel, because it has drama and suspense and shows that this is going on right now and we need to prevent this from going further then it is now.

  51. 1.I thought the book was a interesting book about discrimination. I really got into the book in the part of the trial because at first I thought he was going to lose for sure but then atticus figures out what really happened and I thought he was going to win but sadly he didn't. so yeah it was a good book.
    2. I think its considered a classic because it teaches a lesson about discrimination and how you can't blame someone just because he's black. everyone is created equal I think that's why every Highschool student has to read it to treat everyone the same.
    3. My favorite character by far is atticus. the main reason is because he always does the right thing and I wish I could be like him.
    4. Yes I think it is very important to put yourself in other peoples shoes so that way you can know what its like to feel what other people feel and sometimes you can learn from it.
    5. I would recommend this book to other people so they can learn a lesson on how to treat people and be more like atticus sometimes. this book teaches a lot when you read it .

This book is considered a classic because it is very good and teaches lessons about discrimination about blacks and how they were treated.

My favorite character is Atticus because he was a kind and good person. Whenever scout or Jem had problem they would go to Atticus. Atticus would always have the answers.

It is important to put yourself in other peoples shoes because if you think bad about somebody you dont know what they go through in their life. So I agree with Atticus that it is important.

I would reccomend this book to others because it was a great book and anyone who likes history and fiction would like this book.

  53. I honestly think this was a great book. It shows the racial and gender prejudice that used happen. I cant really relate to the way the people felt during this time because i didnt live at this time period, but this book really explained and i felt like I was there.

This book is a classic and is read by every high school in the worl because of shows much the book decribes the way we used to live amd how everyone can relate to it.

Scout is my favorite character because of her personality and attitude towards everything in the novel.

I agree with Attiucs when he says you have to step in other peoples shoes to see how they feel. This is important because If you judge someone because they have less than you, you wont know how it feels not to have everything until you have steped in their shoes and walked around in them.

I would recommend this book to others because it will chage other peoples prespective on racisam.

  54. The book is really good, I think its a very educational and eye opening book.

This is a classic book because it shows how discrimination is around the world, and it shows how we can relate to our lifes.

My favorite character would have to be Jem. I like Jem because i can relate to him for when I was younger, and growing up along side without all my cousin's and family. I Defend my family and i grow from my experiences.

I think Atticus make an extremely good point in, being in other people's shoes. That way you can see life through other people's lifes and understand that some people dont have alot of stuff than other people.

I do recommend this book to other people because it would make people understand not to be racist to other people just because of their color, or their origin. =)

    ReplyDelete
  55. This book was great and it truly depicted the way racism affected the lives of all the people who were different.
This book is a classic because of the way it shows past times, and how most people felt about it. It helps people know how serious tis problem was and how justice was lacking, even with a few ppeople who wish to do good.
My favorite character is Dill, because of how he is reckless, and will stop at nothing to go where he wants. He is very determined and "marrries" Scout. He is smart, he can read and his imagination is vast.
You should put yourself in others peoples shoes because you do not truly understand what is in their head, why they do things, or how they react. No one is exactly alike so every one has different thoughts and actions.
I WOULD recommend this book to others, because it is a great book, with so much suspense, and bits of comedy. It shows how people were in the past and helps us remember those troubles, so tat we can learn from them and never commit them again.

  56. To me this book, To Kill A Mockingbird, was a very enjoyable novel to read. It was about how bad your race was during these times that take place in the novel and how these children were growing up.
This is because it's accually history and reality that could have happen during these times. It's read because of the past.
My favorite character is Jem. He's a very intellectual boy who matures during the experiences he passes through his life. Not just this but also of how he has an understanding of situations as the one of the Trial in the novel.
You are never going to understand someone in life if you don't believe in this quote given by a very wise man in the novel.
I would of course recommend this novel. Not just recommend it but also encourage people to read this. It explains how there's good but not let good out of you even though the quotes of Atticus,"Good will always Prevail"

  57. This book really touched my heart and made me open my eyes on racism in the world.

I very much agree that this book should be a classic for every up coming class of students. It is a inpsiring and compatible novel with each and every student.

Scout was my favriote character she always had a answer for a question that she probaly didnt understand. She is a very important character in the story and contributes many humorus and exciteful moments to this novel

I personally loved this quote that Aticcus said during the novel. You should never judge someone before going through what theyve been through. Through your eyes you may see it one way and through the other persons eyes it can be the complete oppisite.

I would really recomend this novel to many of my family members and friends to read. Its a novel that will teach you alot about racism and why it is awfull to do.

  58. Honestly, I thought the book was a very good one. I can truthfully say that it is one of the best books I've ever read. All of the themes expressed in the story really get you thinking, and some touch your heart.
The themes in the book can teach you many things. I think the book is a classic because of the messages it sends out, and it just leaves the reader never wanting the book to end.
My favorite character in the novel would have to be Scout. I love how she's never afraid to speak her mind, and is never really afraid of what people think of her. She's tough, and it really stands out to me.
Honestly, even though Atticus does have some what a nieve way of thinking, I do agree with him in the point that sometimes, you do have to step in people's shoes and walk around in them. You never really know how a person is like, or why their like that, until you look at things through their point of view.
I would definantly recommend this book for others to read. Every person should deserve the chance to read this novel. The themes it talks about some what teaches you about your own life, and how the way we look at things now, weren't the same in the 1930's.

  59. I really enjoyed this novel. Its one of my favorites so far. I think that Harper Lee did a really good job and put many mixed emotions in the book. It taught me more about the past and how racism was very strong in those times.

I think that this is a classic read by high school students because it can relate to us and it teaches us lessons about life and how much things have changed.

My favorite character was Scout because I think she is really funny and shes a little crazy but she can change that to be resectful towards Atticus and her elders.

I do think its importan to put myself in other people's shoes because we tend to criticize others and we don't know or understand what it feels like until it is done to us.

I would recomend this book to others because it can teach us right from wrong and it can tell us what to do in tough situations and really teaches us us to be better people. I realy enjoyed this book and I would tell other people to read it because I enjoyed reading it .

  60. To Kill A Mocking Bird was a book that I liked, and there really isn't many books that I enjoy rading.I thought the book was very entertaining and eye opening. I knew that blacks were discrimnated against in the past, I just didnt know that it could go to the extreme of killing a black man over a white man's lie. I read about how different it was back then, and I'm honesstly glad I didnt belong to that generation. I appreciate my rights more now beacuase the book makes it look as if minority and women rights were just not considered important.
I think that this book is consired a classic because everyone can relate to in in one way or another. Also it the character, Scout, just entertains, and touches you with her humor, smarts, and neivity.
My favorite character was Scout. She was like a big ball of randomness. Scout's differnt fights, opinions, and adventures are what made me like her so much.
I do agree with Atticus. You never know what a person is going through unless you are in there situation- or in thier shoes. It's easy to judge somebody and by listening to Atticus advice you wont too tempted to judge the person.
I would recommend this book to others because it speaks to you and makes you look some things diffrently.

High schools everywhere read this because its an amazing book. It teaches students everywhere to respect others.
My favorite character is Scout. She is an adventurous little girl.
Atticus is wise and i greaqtly agree with him. One musty step into others shoes to truely undrestand them.
This is one book I would definatly recommed to others.

  62. I really think that the novel to kill a mockingbird was one of the best i ever read. I think i tought me lessons on quotes that the stry said and the personalities of characters in the story. I also really liked this book because it caught my attention and well even thoug i wouldent read it everyday towards the last chapters i was anxious to know what was gonna happen. The reason why almost or every highschool reads this novel is because i think they want students to know and have an idea of how things were back then and also to make students realize that tings happen. This book also helps u think and realize alot of stuff, for example now us we live in a world with not that much raccisim no more. So my favorite character of the story was atticus, he was brave didint really was like a showoff cause he had money. He was a person that would say things straight up. And wow that frase of coarse if u put urslef into others shoes then u really get to know how that other person felt. I really liked this book and think that this is one of the best ones wow what a book i say everybody shoulg get a chance and read it.

  63. I had heard of the novel a few times here and there, but never thought much of it until it was assigned to us. I thought the book was an excellent novel, and I don't say that too often. I would read it again and again if I could!
This novel is probably considered a classic, because of the way it is portrayed. In the novel, is describes the way life really was in the 1930's, by actual people having to live in those conditions and life styles.
I think my favorite character was Scout, because I can relate to her. When I was in 1st grade, I was put on time out every single day, because I was constantly picking fights with the boys, just the way she does with Walter Cunningham. (true story)
Yes, I do agree with Atticus. I think that if you want to go and pick on someone because of something they do, or the way they dress, you should know why exactly they do what they do. Maybe, they were raised to do things differently that others.
I'm not too sure if I would reccomend this book to a friend of mine, but I would definately tell an adult with a passion for books to read this. The story had such an intriuging twist to it, that it almost became addicting to continue the story.

  64. I really liked the book. I honestly thought this book was going to be boring. I think it is considered a classic because it teaches you didn't lessons thorough out the story. Jem was my favorite because I could relate to him. I also have a little sibling and I liked to play sports. Yes I totally agree with atticus because if you put yourself in someone elses shoes you could tell what's going on in a different point of view. I would recommend this book to others because it teaches you about respect shad what weren't on in the 30s.

  65. Honestly i've read better books, but this is defnatly one of the best i've read this year. Harper Lee did an amazing job of making me feel like i was a spectator, like i was actually watching the story take place in front of me. one main reason i liked reading this book is it had a thriller twist to it. a twist that kept me reading to see what was going to happen next.
The reason being that this is a classic, and every student have and will read this, i think, is because it is so easy to portray this to yourself, and even your community. considereing every student has read this, it's obviously a very good read for high school students. it teaches them not to judge, something everyone does immensly at this age. i know for me that this book taught me just that.
my favorite character would have to be Scout. she reminds me so much of how i was when i was her age, i was a huge tomboy, and always was playing with they boys, i never beat them up though. i love how she can make an adult or anyone, feel so dumb, in a way, with her common sense. Scout never really understands why the things are the way they are in her town, she just uses her common sense to bring people back to earth, and helps them see the reality of what they're doing.
yes i agree with Atticus.i believe that what he says is true because,if people didn't place themselves in other peoples' shoes then we wouldn't be where we are today on a racial stand point, from how it was in the 1930's. like when one of the Cunninghams had voted not guilty for Tom in the story, im sure he took a walk around in Tom Robinson's skin and looked at everything from his perspective. People should do that alot more maybe people wouldn't judge so much.

  66. In all honesty I thought this book bas going to be very boring! Lord Of Then Flies really Brought my hopes down on reading intersting books this year. I was proven wrong because in the end this novel was very interesting and got me to wanting reading more about it.

In my opinion this book is a classic because it shows students how people really think. It shows how some people aren’t really what they seem and how people are very stereotype.

My favorit character in this novel was Scout. She is just a very outgoing little girl and acts really tough and smart. She is a little clueless at times but knows what is going on.

Yes I strongly agree that we should place our self in other peoples shoes before we judge them. We don’t know what they have gone through and how much they suffer to get to where they are at. Until you live there past you shouldn’t judge them.

Yes, I would defenetly recommend this novel to many people. This was a very good book that teaches lessons everyone should know. It teaches you many life lessons dealing with being rasest and discrimination.

  67. To Kill A Mockingbird is a fantastic novel. The topic is very interesting and Harper Lee is an amazing author.

This book is a classic because it shows that not only adults are effected by racism , but so are children.

My favorite character is Boo Radley. He was misunderstood and judged, even though no one really knew who he really was and deep inside he was a good person. He was a mockingbird in this novel.

I do agree with Atticus that we should always put ourselves in other people's shoes. We might not know where they come from or why they do what they do.

Yes, I would most definitely recommend this novel to other people because there is a lesson to be learned that no matter how bad things get something good will come out of it.
